Green Chile U-Pick at Big Jim Farms is a must-do experience for all New Mexicans and visitors alike! There’s nowhere else in the world where you can go into the field to pick your own green chile, and we offer the freshest, most flavorful varieties. From August to mid-October, join us in Albuquerque for an authentic New Mexican tradition—picking your own green chile and having it roasted right in the field where it was grown.
At Big Jim Farms, we only grow traditional varieties, bursting with rich, bold flavor. Whether you want mild Joe Parker, medium Big Jim, or the flavorful Sandia, we've got you covered. For those seeking some fire, our Lumbre variety is sure to ignite your taste buds! It’s all organically grown, ensuring the best flavor you can get anywhere.
Here’s how it works: Check in with us to get your basket and then head out into the fields to pick your chiles by the pound, half bushel, or full bushel. Once you've picked the biggest and best chiles, stop by our roaster to get your chile roasted to perfection!

Prices: Green Chile is $1.99 per lb, $25 for a 1/2 bushel, and $35 for a bushel. Roasting is an additional $5 (available for both red and green varieties). Pre-picked sacks are available for $45. We accept EBT with Double Up Food Bucks for all fresh produce, including chile. So that means you will get 2 for the price of 1 if you use your EBT—so stock up when you’re here!
Get ready for a flower-filled adventure at Big Jim Farms! Our U-Pick fields are bursting with vibrant sunflowers, zinnias, marigolds, cosmos, and New Mexico wildflowers just waiting for you to pick. Stroll through the blooms, snip your favorites, and take home a beautiful bouquet in a mason jar. It’s the perfect way to add a splash of color to your day and your home—plus, it’s a must-visit spot for family photos! Dress up and capture Instagram-worthy moments amongst the vibrant flowers!
Our U-Pick fields are open daily from 8 AM to 6 PM, and it's free to visit. You only pay for what you pick! Rent a pair of clippers for $5, then wander through our vibrant flower fields. Once you're done picking, return your clippers, and we’ll give you a free mason jar with water to take your beautiful bouquet home.
Flowers are generally 5 for $15, but you can pick as few or as many as you'd like!
Flower U-Pick begins in July and continues until mid-October, with new blooms arriving in waves, so there's always something fresh to pick.
Depending on when you visit, you may also find other crops open for picking, like green chile from August to frost, and pumpkins in October. While you're here, don't forget to visit our friendly farm animals and check out our fun workshops!
Get ready for a fall adventure at Big Jim Farms! Our pumpkin patch opens mid-September through the end of October, and it's packed with pure autumn fun. Wander through rows of pumpkins, pick your perfect one, and snap photos with our vintage tractors and trucks decked out in festive fall décor. We’ve got pumpkins in all sizes and varieties—priced by size—so you can find the perfect one for carving, decorating, or just for fun!
The excitement doesn’t stop there! During this time, we host our Harvest Festival with live music from local musicians, face painting, and lots of fun activities for the whole family. Plus, while you’re picking pumpkins, you might just find yourself exploring our flower U-pick or green chile U-pick fields or meeting our friendly farm animals. In 2025, we’re excited to introduce even more hands-on classes, including cooking sessions and canning workshops. We also host special winter workshops that center around the holidays in New Mexico, offering a warm and festive way to celebrate the season. At Big Jim Farms, we open when our crops are ready—late summer and fall—but every year we add more to the fun! In 2025, we’re starting in May with cold-weather crops, followed by sunflower U-pick, green chile, pumpkins, and ending with Christmas trees. Once we open for the season, we’re here daily from 8 AM to 6 PM. Our farm stand is always stocked with fresh, homegrown produce straight from the field. We’re also hoping to add a spring experience soon!
At Big Jim Farms, we’re always free to visit! Come anytime to stroll through the farm and enjoy the beautiful scenery. You only pay if you decide to pick something from the fields or buy from our farm stand. We keep our produce prices affordable so everyone can enjoy fresh, locally grown food. Plus, we accept EBT with Double Up Food Bucks, meaning you get 2 items for the price of 1 when using your EBT. We also accept WIC and the Senior Food Program, making it easier for more families to enjoy fresh, nutritious produce. It’s our way of making healthy food accessible to all!
We offer field trips for school-aged children to explore agriculture and New Mexico's farming traditions. Students can interact with farm animals, learn where food comes from, and discover local farming practices. We also host workshops focused on New Mexico's agricultural traditions.
