Big Jim Farms offers an exciting and educational field trip experience for students of all ages! Located in Albuquerque’s beautiful North Valley, our farm is the perfect place for hands-on learning about agriculture, sustainability, and where our food comes from.
Your students will explore interactive learning stations focused on everything from soil health and composting to beekeeping and water conservation. They'll get the chance to engage in fun, STEAM-based activities like creating bird feeders and seed bombs, while gaining a deeper understanding of farming practices and environmental stewardship.
With each field trip designed to be both educational and entertaining, students will leave with a greater appreciation for the farm-to-table journey, and a take-home booklet filled with exciting resources to continue learning at home. Don't miss out on this unique outdoor adventure.
The cost per student or child is $9.50 each, including any siblings that may also attend. Children under the age of 3 are free and all teachers & adults are free. Must have a group of at least 12 to book. Will email FAQs and quote upon booking.
You are able to pay cash, card, or PO the day of field trip. CC payments will be charged 4% fee. Must cancel via phone or email with as much advance notice as possible or we will charge a $50 no show fee.
Field trips are structured with guided learning stations lasting 1 to 2 hours. After the stations, students can choose to have a snack or lunch and enjoy extra time for exploration.
The topics covered at the learning stations include soil health, regeneration, composting, seed germination, water conservation, beekeeping, organic farming practices, farm animals, and more.
Each station offers hands-on activities for students to engage with. Teachers should plan 3 hours total for field trip.
To ensure your field trip at Big Jim Farms is a fun and smooth experience, here’s what you need to prepare:
First, bring plenty of water to keep everyone hydrated throughout the day. Pack a lunch or snacks to enjoy after the educational activities, as there will be time to take a break and relax.
Don’t forget sunscreen to protect from the sun, as much of the day will be spent outdoors. Be sure to wear comfortable clothes and shoes that are suitable for walking around the farm and getting a little muddy!
For transportation, please plan ahead and consider carpooling, as parking is limited. Buses can drop off at the main gate but must park offsite.
Finally, ensure that you’ve made your reservation in advance and have your payment ready upon arrival. We’re excited to welcome you to Big Jim Farms for a memorable day of learning and fun!
We’re excited to introduce our brand-new spring curriculum at Big Jim Farms! If your students have visited us before, this is a perfect opportunity to dive into fresh, hands-on learning with our updated Spring-Themed Learning Stations.
This year, we’ve added even more interactive, STEAM-based activities that focus on environmental stewardship both on the farm and at home. Students will explore backyard conservation, learn about gardening and sustainable farming, and discover the magic of composting and regenerative practices. They’ll even get to visit our new earthworm farm and see firsthand how these little creatures help build healthy soil.
